There is a moment, standing on the sandstone terrace at 2 Jellicoe Street, when the harbour stops being scenery and starts being the room you're in.

The outlook runs a full 180 degrees north-east — across Sydney Harbour, out past Manly Cove, to the open ocean beyond — and the house has been arranged, level by level, to keep it in front of you. Set at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in Balgowlah Heights, this is a home that treats its position not as a backdrop but as its first principle.

What the panorama doesn't tell you is what sits behind it. The 1,182sqm parcel adjoins Sydney Harbour National Park, so the view forward is water and the view back is bushland — the theatre of the harbour and the hush of the reserve, held together on one site.
